Wild Things

Adult themes and American accents throughout, for upper intermediate levels only.

The 90s included a plethora of low budget thrillers that got by simply by being provocative and including sleazy sex scenes.

Every now an d then, however, there would be a bigger budget version, such as Basic Instinct, that would take the genre and make it accessible for a larger audience. It would include bigger stars and, of course, a bigger budget too.

For me, Wild Things is a perfect example of this. An erotic thriller with a tight storyline, several twists and an attractive but also starry cast. Kevin Bacon, Matt Dillon and Neve Campbell were all fairly big stars at the time of the films production, and when you add Robert Wagner and Bill Murray you have an absolutely STACKED cast that elevates this to film that is much more than just your average thriller.

Dillon plays a school counsellor that is accused of rape by one of his students. With the detectives convinced he is guilty and only third rate attorney Bill Murray in his corner, it doesn't look good. What transpires though is a steamy collection of twists and double crosses that will genuinely keep you guessing throughout.

The perfect recipe for a guilty pleasure night in.
