The Untouchables

All accents throughout, including Irish and Scottish as well as American and british english, making it a great experience for intermediate and advanced speakers.

Brian de Palma is one of cinemas great directors. He made Scarface, once of the most recognised gangster films ever. He made the first Mission Impossible, kicking off  the franchise. He made Blowout, Carlitos Way and Dressed to Kill. The man's cv is very impressive.

His most famous film, however, is The Untouchables. And in my opinion, it's his masterpiece.

Set during the American prohibition period of the 1930s, it stars Robert de Niro as the gangster Alex Capone and Kevin Costner as Eliot Ness, the Treasury agent assigned with stopping his alcohol and bring him down. Alongside Ness is the young sharp shooting. Recruit George Stone, played with real enthusiasm by Andy Garcia.

And then there's Sean Connery.......

Sean Connery is an acting giant. If you've read Flemings novels, you'll know he IS James Bond. But his acting credentials also include The Hunt for Red October, The Rock, Marnie and The Man Who Would Be king.

His performance as Malone, the Irish beat cop with the Scottish accent (Connery famously never changed his natural accent, even when playing a Spaniard!) Connery brings a sense of pathos and world weariness that gives The Untouchables its heart.

It's one of my favourite films. I'm pretty sure it will become one of yours, too.
